How to Sleep Better When You Have Your Period

When you have your period, you guard your own movements. It can be so difficult to get a good night’s sleep.

The makers of STAYFREE® know this. That’s why we developed STAYFREE® Overnight maxi. It’s the only overnight pad with NIGHTGUARD zone* and eighteen anti-leak channels,**designed to help lock leaks from side to side, and front to back too. You get the maximum leak protection, allowing you to rest comfortably without worrying about leaks.

Bloating, period cramps and other unwelcome symptoms of having your period can also cause you to toss and turn. Hormonal changes make many women prone to having poor sleep during their menstrual cycles. The good news is there are some things you can do to ease discomfort so you can sleep soundly. Here are four suggestions for sleeping better when you have your period:

Try a little light exercise a few hours before bedtime. Activity makes many women feel better. Exercise helps increase endorphins, special chemicals in the brain, which are responsible for increasing pleasure and decreasing pain. Physical activity also helps to use up excess energy so you fall asleep faster and rest more soundly.

Limit your caffeine consumption. Caffeine not only keeps you awake, but it can also intensify your menstrual symptoms. What’s more, the effects of caffeine may last up to 8 hours. If you can’t get by without a grande, extra hot, no whip mocha, try to drink it before noon so it doesn't affect your sleep.

Drink herbal tea. Decaffeinated herbal tea can help relieve tension and reduce any feelings of irritability and anxiety. In fact, chamomile tea is particularly helpful as it may reduce the severity of menstrual cramps.

Treat yourself to an aromatherapy session. The scent of lavender, in particular, is used to naturally calm moods, reduce headaches, and ease insomnia. Rest your head on a lavender pillow to help you drift off to sleep in no time.

Follow these simple tips for sleeping better and you can easily wake up to a beautiful morning.
